UMN Pharma was established in 2004 as an academic spin-off with a focus on pharmaceutical ventures. The company has developed unique technologies and gained experience aimed at bringing vaccine development to market. Although UMN Pharma encountered setbacks that led to the suspension of its operations, the company re-entered the field as part of the SHIONOGI Group in March 2020 and is redoubling its efforts in vaccine development.

The name "UMN Pharma" is derived from the initials of Unmet, Medical, and Needs. The name embodies our desire to address unfulfilled medical needs that are demanded by society and individuals alike.
