SHIONOGI Group EHS Code of Conduct

In order to achieve SHIONOGI Group Heritage (the Company Policy of SHIONOGI") that "SHIONOGI strives constantly to supply the best possible medicine to protect the health and wellbeing of the patients we serve", SHIONOGI Group recognizes it the one of essential initiatives to promote EHS※1 activities such as “Engagement in environmental issues” and “Optimization of work practices and enhancement of the workplace environment”. Therefore, we have established the SHIONOGI Group EHS Policy.

 

Based on the "SHIONOGI Group EHS Policy", this Code of Conduct stipulates the organizational and individual specific actions necessary to maintain and improve the Group’s EHS standards. 

1. Under a highly organized management system that clarifies organizational responsibilities and authorities, we identify priority issues based on the material issues (materiality) of SHIONOGI Group and work to resolve them by formulating and responsibly implementing EHS Action Targets.

・ Appointing a Corporate Officer in charge of EHS with full authority over EHS management from among the Corporate Officers

・ Setting EHS Action Targets (single year and medium- to long-term) and operating the EHS management cycle

・ Sharing and discussing the status of EHS activities at meetings attended by employees

・ Among the above EHS promotion activities, important matters are deliberated at the Corporate Executive Management Meeting and resolved at the Board of Directors meeting.

2. We comply with laws and regulations related to the environment, safety, and health as well as international standards and norms.

・ Complying with the laws and regulations of each country and the agreements of international organizations, such as the OECD, WHO, and ILO

・ Operating ISO 14001, ISO 45001, and our in-house management system, which complies with these standards, at major operating sites

3. We continue to work to reduce environmental impact and risk factors in the workplace in all business activities, such as research and development, production, distribution, and sales, within SHIONOGI Group as well as in collaboration with business partners.

Countermeasures against climate change

Promotion of CO2 emissions reduction within SHIONOGI Group and our supply chain with the aim of achieving our SBT※2 by 2030 and zero CO2 emissions by 2050
[SBT by 2030: In-house CO2 emissions - 46.2% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions; 20% reduction in Scope 3, Category 1 emissions (compared to FY2019)]

 - Promoting energy-saving initiatives aimed at reducing energy intensity by 1% per year

 - Thoroughly managing the release of chemical substances, including antimicrobials, in the product manufacturing process

・ Facilitating the efficient use of animal and plant resources

Continuous environmental improvement through occupational safety and health management

・ Establishing an employee participation-type meeting system for sharing and discussing occupational safety and health

・ Setting quantitative targets and implementing measures related to occupational health and safety

 - Promoting measures aimed at zero work-related fatal incidents, lost-time incidents, and work-related illness

・ Ensuring the safety of workers and the local environment by preventing accidents and minimizing damage

4. We aim to raise the awareness of our employees and business partners through prompt provision of information on EHS, regular EHS education and training, and EHS audits, dialogue, and engagement.

・ Providing education on EHS to employees

・ Promoting improvement through EHS audits of our operating sites and business partners and EHS dialogue with staff there

5. We build a partnership of trust with society by enhancing communication, including disclosing information on EHS activities, and by supporting local and social environmental protection activities.

・ Participating in local and social communities

・ Disclosing information and responding to external evaluation organizations

 - Creating various disclosure media (reports, websites) and responding to questionnaires
